Mike Scrivens Amazing release from start to finish. I love the "one mic in the room" vibe and Jeremy's soulful voice rivals that of Ben Harper.
And as much as I love the delta blues tone of this album, "Diggin' a ditch" really showcases Mr, Short's guitar chops as it meanders into jazz territory.
I can't recommend this release enough to any diehard acoustic blues fan! Favorite track: Diggin' A Ditch.

Glenn Paull This was just what I was looking for, authentic blues with no added extras. Great music. Favorite track: Road Call.

Pardon Me 03:13
I gotta step out, on my own Take all these excuses, Tell them all to get blown Pardon me, I'm makin' moves And I don't know which path to choose Makin' moves Risk assessors, Don't hold your breath. Bill collectors, I may be late on rent Pardon me, I'm makin' moves Taking chances, singing blues Makin' moves Pardon me, I'm makin' moves Traveling the land, searching for clues Lord knows if I'll win or lose Makin' moves

Well I'm workin 9-5, down at the chicken shack They work a poor boy to death, ain't that a fact Jack? I support myself, I pay my rent By the time I pay my bills, I ain't got a damn thing left. Aint that workin, Glory be ain't that workin child Work your hands to the bone, give all you got till it's gone Ain't that workin Listen to the boss man, tellin me to pick up the slack Well he must not be looking, at the same clock I'm looking at Always sayin' I need this, boy won't you go do that? Brother if I ever get out of here, you can bet I won't be back.

I got a hard headed woman, hard headed woman of my own. She's so set in her ways, you'd think her head was made of stone. When she's right, she's right When she's wrong she's right too If you try and tell her different Boy, do I pity you. She treats me kindly, And cleans up nice. Anybody try and step on her toes, They'll surely pay the price. She cooks my meals, She cleans the house. Don't let that fool you, Into thinking she's a mouse. She'll get it all done, Both day and night. Don't try and get in her way, Or then you'll see her might. Oh, I love my hard headed woman The way she rock me through the night. And with her there, by my side I can't help but see the light.

Diggin a ditch, ain't no fun When you work like a dog, in the hot, hot sun Doin my time 'til the work gets done I'll be diggin this ditch in the hot summer sun Working all day in the hot, hot sun Let me tell ya people, it ain't much fun I can't quit now much as I might like to Oooh, I got too much work to do Layin the line all day long 9 to 5, just singing this song Sun comes up and the sun goes down I'll be swinging this hammer round and round Working all day in the hot, hot sun Let me tell ya people, it ain't much fun I can't quit now much as i might like to Oooh, I got too much work to do

Road Call 03:45
Strap up them boot laces, And fill my coffee cup. Going to walk right out that door, When the morning sun comes up. 'Cause I hear that road a calling, Callin', callin out my name And I know if I don't listen I'll never be the same. Every now again I get settled, Think I'm happy with what I've found Before I know it my feet start moving And I'm off to another town Could find a pretty lady, Fall in love and focus on my health But I know, yes I know I'd only be fooling myself Who knows where I'm going Hopefully everywhere Lord knows if when I get back Ooh, she'd even care.

about

Jeremy Short Morehead, Kentucky

“A little bit Marvin Gaye, a little bit Pink Floyd and a little bit Tyler Childers, Jeremy Short’s jam-fueled Appalachian soul music proves that there’s a lot more than country and bluegrass music radiating from the Eastern Kentucky mountains. Short’s epic tales will leave you dancing with jubilation one moment and crying the next" (Matt Wickstrom) ... more
